If Marti were a dog, she’d have been a Border Collie. Tenacious passion for learning, and continued development are hallmarks of Marti’s life journey. Marti’s first philanthropic endeavor was the founding of Borderpups, Inc. in the 1980’s. All proceeds benefited Border Collie rescue in the U.S. and Canada. She also helped in the rescue and placements of many dogs over the years.
She has taken multiple dogs to high levels of obedience, agility, herding and therapy status with what she calls “empathy training”. She attributes her success to mentors like Dr. Temple Grandin, Dr. Jane Goodall and most of all, to the animals she has had the privilege of knowing and training over the years. “The animals have been my best teachers” Marti says. “I never stop learning from them.”
Marti’s professional background has included business building with her entrepreneurial husband since 1975. Presently, she owns and operates a dog academy in northern Illinois, where humans and dogs alike learn to partner through compassion and true understanding. She also proudly sits on the board of the James Banks Foundation, where she will make a real difference in the lives of animals; domestic and wild.
